I glad I found this video. It’s a perfect match with the style I had in mind for my animation. Using painted textures and simple shapes. Colourful and organic yet minimalistic. This animation nails the style I had in mind. It is created from watercolour art that is scanned and cut out in Photoshop. All layers are placed into After effects and animated. Main character is presumably animated using a vector mask and pin animation to get his “skin” to move organically.
Not only is the animation in general a perfect match, they also do the season change effect at the end of the animation and it looks amazing. I think they use a lot of hue shift effects to produce the seasons. Shifting hues and adding some effects like snow gives the ending a very convincing look. I will have to experiment with those tools to see if I can receive those effects as well. A big difference in my production will have to be the actual movement in the animation. I will not aim to produce this complex and smooth animations but much more simplistic.
